Problem # 15
Te Clever Prince
Traditions tell that in the Kingdom of Imagination, there are two
regions called Sincerio and Falsio. As one can tell by their names, the
characteristic of each region is the opposite attitude the inhabitants
of each region have towards the truth. The people of Sincerio always
tell the truth and the people of Falsio always lie. A Prince from
another kingdom who was lost in these strange lands knew very well
about the rules of these two nations, but he wanted to know in which
country he was. Full Article

due to overcrowding,
rivalries
In the space of a week, 27
people have been murdered in the
overcrowded prisons of Honduras.
On April 26, a riot broke out
in a San Pedro Sula prison,
leaving nine men dead. Inmates
used knifes and machetes in the
brutal attacks. Then, on May 3rd,
another 18 inmates were killed

Tegucigalpa. Using knifes and
machetes, the riot escalated as the
prisoners fought back. Full Article By Laura Stray

AN ACTION WITH CLASS
Everyone knows God helps those who help themselves, but sometimes we
don’t know where to begin. In at least three previous issues we asked that anyone
who felt they had been, or were being victimized with a frivolous lawsuit to come
forth. We feel there are many of you out there and if you all rally around one
central flag you may indeed be redeemed both morally and financially. Full Article By Don Pearly
Recent events indicate Colombia’s insurgency weakens

Honduras This Week
For over half a decade, the
asymmetric confrontation between
Colombia’s armed forces and the
country’s multiple irregular guerrilla
outfits have constructed a
complicated conflict machine,
fuelled by rural social resentment
and lack of economic integration,
the lucrative narcotics trade, and
the intransigence of the principal
factions of this theatre of war, the
narco-guerrillas, ultra-conservative
paramilitaries, external
regional security services, and the
Colombian political and defence
apparatus. Full Article By James W. Bodden

Controversy and corruption scandalize the Honduran Attorney General’s office

Courtesy of El Heraldo
As the Honduran “fiscales”
hunger strike against the Honduran
Attorney General’s office continues,
a new face has emerged on the
scene: well-known televangelist
and preacher, Pastor Evelio Reyes,
has joined the district attorneys
who have now been striking for
more than a month. Reyes leads
one of Honduras’ largest and most
visible evangelical churches, the Abundant Life Christian Church,
in Tegucigalpa. The church broadcasts
its sermons locally and in
many other Latin American countries.Full Article By Álvaro Morales Molina

To die of hunger is the worst
Many years ago our father used
to say, “There are subjects that
should not be mentioned in front of
Grandmother.” There were times
when she went hungry as a child, a
common, seasonal problem faced in
the drought-prone southern region
of Honduras; she and her sisters
used to repeat the famous words
of Homer that dying of hunger was
the worst kind of death. Full Article
Taiwanese photo exhibit at the MIN:
Visual feast for the eyes
The Museo para la Identidad
Nacional (MIN) is hosting an
excellent photographic exhibit
from Taiwan. Years ago, the first
western name for Taiwan was “formosa,” used by Portuguese
explorers who indeed were struck
by the “hermosa” (beautiful) island.
These photographs show that the
explorers were correct about the
beauty which has endured to this
day. Full Article By Patrick Ahern

At one time, the banana industry was king in Honduras

It would be hard to underestimate
the impact that the banana
exports has had on not just
Honduras but the whole of Central
America in the last century. The
American food companies have
left their mark in many different
areas – political, economic, military,
social, environmental and health.
As we begin to reach the end of the
first decade in the 21st century, it is
clear that the Honduran economy
is not so reliant on the banana
industry as it has been in the past;
new exports have emerged and
taken over the banana industry as
the country’s once most popular
export.Full Article By Callum Oliver Reece
