Honduras This Week National NewsIt is well reported that, although Honduras has many of the luxuries associated with developed countries, it still remains a third world country. It is the second poorest country in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Outside major cities like Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula, the extent of poverty is evident as most families scrape by on less than $3 a day. According to the United Nations, 61% of the population in Honduras lives in extreme poverty. Full Article

Javier Bardem plays Florentino Ariza in "Love in the Time of Cholera."

Honduras This Week National NewsFilm adaptations of memorable, widely-acclaimed novels can be a tricky undertaking, even by the most gifted film makers. Many times, fans of the book come away from the film equivalent disappointed in the translation. It may be because a complicated plot wasn’t fully realized in the film; maybe the actor playing one of the key roles isn’t who the audience envisioned when they read the book. Successful film adaptations in recent years include the wildly popular J.R. Tolkien-adapted “Lord of the Rings” movies, which grossed hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide and went on to win important film awards, including a Best Picture Oscar. It is generally believed that hard-core J.R. Tolkien fans were happy with the resulting translations from book to film. Full Article

THE BLUE PARROT

Travel & Tourism in HondurasA usually reputable, reliable source tells us that the Blue Parrot restaurant, located just before Lawson Rock coming from Coxen Hole is expanding. Why? The original Rick is opening up there! What a treat, the number one restaurant on the island will have an even more convenient location. We will check it out - tough job but someone’s gotta to do it. Not sure if this site will replace the West End place or not, but we’ll ask. By Don Pearl
