Sometimes
I really don’t understand this world we live in. On one hand, we
are taught “not to judge a book by its cover.” On the other,
we tend to assume that a clean-shaven, Anglo male in a business suit is
most likely affluent, successful, and generally not a threat in terms
of stealing or mugging the average Joe.Full

Remittances
for Honduras Increase Despite Economic Slowdown
Remittances
play a large role in the economy of Honduras, making up 28.2% of the
countries GDP in 2007 according to the Economic Commission for Latin
America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). With a large portion of that sum
sent from the United States the economic deceleration might cause some
in
Honduras to worry for this large portion of the economy. Full

WILL
WONDERS NEVER CEASE?
HTW
witnessed a horrendous car accident near the airport, and believe it or
not, there was not one taxi involved. Well, perhaps a taxi caused it and
fled, we probably will never know the real facts surrounding the incident.
What it looked like was one pick-up truck, heavily laden with empty beer
bottles and cases, with a young Latino driver at the wheel. His arms covered
with tattoos, he was obviously on the wrong side of the road. He hit another
vehicle head-on, knocking it off the hill and into a ravine. It landed
on the driver’s side, trapping the driver.Full

Accelerated ACL Rehabilitation Program

Suffering
a total rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee is
a very traumatic experience for any athlete. The injury itself is very
painful and on top of that, a long rehabilitation process follows surgical
repair of the injury. After years of experience and study, I’ve
been able to develop an accelerated ACL rehabilitation program, safe for
any athlete. The big secret is the use of “acceleration training,”
which takes postoperative exercises and the ACL rehabilitation protocol
to a whole new level. In my protocol, I’m using the Power-Plate
for the acceleration training. There have been several studies by well-known
sports medicine institutes; all of them have confirmed the survey published
below. Full Article

Breaking
News: Superhero Leaps Tall Buildings While Nursing Hang-over
I’ve
scratched myself a bald spot wondering why the latest Fourth of July-released
Will Smith extravaganza has gotten such scathing reviews. Maybe I just
answered my own question – are other critics simply tired of having
to review yet another summer blockbuster from the seemingly invincible
Mr. Smith? Who knows - I’m honestly a little befuddled about it.
I enjoyed the heck out of ‘Hancock,’ and some of the snarky
comments that have been hurled at it are unjustified. Full

Migration
Ventures Enrich Honduran Economy

Courtesy Mauricio Medina
Newly hired Honduran workers receive cultural and work orientation
in Canada.
It
is estimated that there are 300,000 Hondurans living in the U.S., sending
approximately $600 million a year to relatives back home. Remittances,
alongside assembly industry exports, amount to one of the top two sources
of the country’s $2.5 billion in foreign income. However, mass migration
of the working population poses a severe threat to the economic development
of Honduras, and the financial benefit associated with living in the U.S.
propels hundreds of thousands of Hondurans to undertake risky and illegal
crossings into Mexico. The actions required to combat this problem seem
evasive, but in Honduras, there appears to be a solution to appease the
appetites of those wishing to emigrate and simultaneously benefit its
economic development. Full Article By

The
Mother of Law:
Our Constitution
The
Republic of Honduras has seen sixteen different versions of its National
Constitution, since the first Spanish Colonial government administration
in the Central American region and specifically in Honduras. Our constitution,
to the benefit all of our people, has been influenced the best of Roman,
French, English, Spanish, Chilean and Mexican legal and justice systems;
all of them were used as role models of citizen rights, and fair justice
for all. Full

Food Crisis: An Outrage Largely Being Ignored

Scott Siggins/Honduras This Week
Local produce vendors at the Tegucigalpa Farmer's Market sell
fresh vegatables, poultry, fruits and flowers.
The
United Nations World Food Program has warned of severe food shortages
across Central America. The U.N. calculates that as many as one million
peasants in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala will soon be
facing crisis as their yearly crops fail. The situation is reportedly
worse in rural Honduras with more than 300,000 smallholding farmers reporting
they have lost their entire crop. This news comes in the wake of last
month when thousands of activists blocked highways and rallied in the
capital to oppose food price hikes and policies that made their country
the most open to free trade in Latin America - and one of the poorest
in the western hemisphere. Full
