Cueva del Sapo

Pre-Columbian engravings adorn a large rock in a shallow cave less than a kilometer from Nueva Armenia, Francisco Morazán Province, called Cueva del Sapo (Cave of the Toad) by locals. Much of the shelter's rock art -- both paintings (pictographs), mostly in red, and engravings (petroglyphs) -- has been destroyed by vandals and a cavein that occurred approximately six years ago, according to campesino Juan Barahona (squatting on rock), a resident of Nueva Armenia. Cueva del Sapo is just one of many rock art sites in Francisco Morazán Province and Honduras.

'Adios' Honduras

Louis Bruhnke (America), Vladimir Fissenko (Russian naturalized French citizen), and horses bid Tegucigalpa a fond farewell after a month's stay in the capital. Making Tortillas

A young Lenca woman makes tortillas next to the National Congress' session hall in downtown Tegucigalpa. Tired of broken promises, thousands of native Hondurans, representing seven different indigenous peoples and ethnic groups, held peaceful demonstrations in the capital and presented the government with a list of more than 60 demands.
